Villa di Maser via Barbaro 4, Maser, Treviso Open to the public Special openings and events www.villadimaser.it Historical cellar Groups (min 15 people) by appointment only reduced price: euro 3 In the design of this villa, which was built for the Barbaro brothers at the beginning of the 1550s, Palladio adopted an arrangement for the first time, whereby the house and barchesse would be aligned in such a manner as to form a compact architectural unit. In the construction of the villa, Palladio expressed his considerable skill: he succeeded in transforming a pre-existing house, joining it to the rectilinear barchesse and excavated the adjacent hillside to form a nymphaeum with a fishpond, from which, by means of an elaborate hydraulic system, water was drawn into the service areas of the villa and then conveyed towards the ornamental garden and kitchen garden. In the descriptive caption found on the page dedicated to this work in the Quattro Libri, Palladio emphasized this technological feat, which had been inspired by ancient Roman hydraulic systems. Inside the villa, Paolo Veronese created a cycle of frescoes now considered one of the most extraordinary mural paintings to be produced in the Veneto in the 16th-century.
